Leadership in Biodiversity

Borneo Environmental Leadership Fellowship

A field-based environmental leadership program in one of the world's most biodiverse regions. This two-week immersive journey empowers students to develop global perspective, environmental resilience, and impactful leadership skills.

What is the Borneo Environmental Leadership Fellowship?

The Borneo Environmental Leadership Fellowship is a two-week, field-based program designed to develop globally aware, resilient, and thoughtful young leaders. The experience is structured into two immersive phases: an initial week deep within the primary rainforest followed by a second week focused on marine conservation.

Students trek through jungle terrain to observe rare biodiversity before transitioning to the coast to earn their PADI Open Water Certification. Throughout the fellowship, students engage in guided discussions on coral reef monitoring, sustainable community development, and long-term legacy projects, transforming their academic foundation into a impactful global perspective.

Student Research & Legacy Projects

Students actively contribute to real-world environmental monitoring and meaningful, long-term ecosystem observation projects.

During their time in Borneo, students document the health of marine ecosystems and local biodiversity. This includes coral reef monitoring, marine life identification, and tracking wildlife presence, such as the endangered Borneo pygmy elephant, across diverse habitats.

These insights serve as a foundation for continued study back at school. Through this long-term initiative, future cohorts revisit these locations to track changes in coral growth and ecosystem health over time.

This provides a unique opportunity for students to become part of a larger mission—contributing to critical environmental data while developing the scientific responsibility and global perspective essential for future leaders.
